Goliath Beetle Chine-collé Block Print
Goliath Beetle Linocut with Chine-collé 20 of 25 on Mulberry paper. Size 16 inch x 20 inch matted mounted and comes in a plastic sleeve.
The color is not ink, but a piece of dyed rice paper that is affixed to the mulberry paper using glue and the printing block. The process required the rice paper be positioned just right on top of the inked up block, then everything is pressed together.
I have others in the edition available. The color will be completely different for each print.
Chine-collé is a printmaking technique in which the image is transferred onto a surface that is bonded onto a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, that pulls finer details off the plate. Another purpose is to provide a background color behind the image that is different from the surrounding backing sheet.
