Life depends on small things
we take for granted.

I made this design for bug fans who want to celebrate the holidays including Christmas but don’t want it to be TOO creepy! SO I took my leaf insects and lady beetles and made something festive yet buggy!

It takes a minute to realize it’s bugs which has been MY FAVORITE part when people react! OMG IT’S BUGS!!

Happy Holidays comes blank inside with a red envelope.
Merry Christmas comes blank inside with a kraft envelope.

This design has a story! Most evenings my spouse and I sit on our back patio around dusk and watch the bats swarm and dive for their daily meal. We watch the skies colors fade from pale pink at sunset to a deep purple and then comes the dark indigo of night sky.

Bats are Awesome! Without bats we wouldn’t have many foods and medicines that we cherish. Bats being premiere pollinators, help provide us with bananas, agave (Tequila and sugar), mangoes, guavas, dates, figs, peaches, and CHOCOLATE. Plus, their voracious appetites; eating their own weight in insects each night, help save us millions of dollars by eating pests that harm crops like, cotton, tomatoes, corn, rice, strawberries, pecans and more!

Also, bats are just cool! If you love bats and want to celebrate them in style then we have some new fashion for you!

Part of the Lil Critters Under Glass series 2024. A wheel of an assortment of Poison Dart Frogs. I chose these cool color tones gradated like a color wheel to showcase the spectrum of color within a species. The glitter ink I use adds movement to the light when you walk past it.

12x12 inch framed with mat. Prints are available in 12x12 square only.

Watercolor painting of "specimens", signed prints available in limited supply.

Each painting/print is designed to provide a death-free alternative to having your favorite critter on your wall.

Bugs-Under-Glass Series

I had planned on buying a leaf insect, a few random beetles, spiders, and assorted bugs. I just had to wait until the next paycheck to buy the leaf insect. While those two weeks passed I would see the mounted insects on the wall and “squeee” with delight. But then, I started to think about this little creature was in fact a living thing that someone had to kill to mount for me. Granted the life of an insect is not one for the history books, generally…but alas…I started getting the “guilties”.

So I came up with the “brilliant” idea of painting my own little insects. This way it would save a life, and I could enjoy specimens without guilt. Thus, my Bugs-Under-Glass Series began.

Please note:
Print Only option will only include the print, no mat, nor frame.
Mat Only option will include the signed print, mat, backerboard, and plastic sleeve.
Framed option will vary in size, and come signed art original or print, with mat.

This is the Pied Butterfly or Badger Bat, Niumbaha superba, native to the Republic of Congo and parts of East Africa. I think they look like adorable flying pandas!
